Who is my advisor? Each student is assigned an academic advisor depending on your year, academic standing, day or evening status, and/or major. You can determine who your advisor is by logging onto WebAdvisor and clicking on your profile.
Academic Probation and Dismissal Policies
Probation and Dismissal are based upon the student’s cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). For more detailed information please refer to page 232 of the 2007 catalog.
Grade Appeal Policy If you think you have received a final grade you did not deserve than you may appeal that grade within the first two weeks of the next semester. For more detailed information on the steps of the appeal process please see page 240 of the 2007 Catalog.
Petition Process
A student may petition the Faculty Committee on Academic Standards for the following reasons: grade appeal (only after previous steps of the appeal process have been exhausted), permission to repeat a course for a third time, permission to exceed 18 credits in one semester, and to take courses at another college (when it would otherwise not be permitted). Please fill out the petition form and submit it to the Registrar’s office for processing.
Withdrawal Process
A student may officially withdraw from the College prior to the end of classes in a given semester. W-grades will be recorded if the voluntary withdrawal is made between the beginning of the third week of classes and the last day to withdraw without the permission of the Faculty Committee on Academic Standards (see Academic Calendar). After that date, a "WF" will be recorded.
Students who feel that there are mitigating circumstances may file an appeal with the Faculty committee on Academic Standards. In order to withdraw, the student must complete a withdrawal form available in the Office of Advising and Registration. Failure to withdraw officially will lead to failing grades and may limit chances of reinstatement at a later date. Students who have withdrawn and who wish to be considered for reinstatement must complete the reinstatement application available in the Admissions Office.
To withdraw from a course, a student must see their advisor or an advisor in the Advising office to fill out the appropriate form. Please note: students will receive a W-grade only if the withdrawal takes place after the start of the third week of class and before the last date to withdraw without permission of the Faculty Committee on Academic Standards (see Academic Calendar). Course withdrawals after that date will result in a "WF" grade.
Undeclared Students
Each student must declare a major or area of concentration formally prior to registering for the 17th course. The Career Services office is available for assistance selecting a major.
Transfer Students
The courses you are transferring will be evaluated by an advisor once you have been accepted to the College. If there are courses that need further evaluation you must take a description of those courses to the department chairperson for possible use in your major.
