What is CAT?
Creative Arts & Technology is an interdisciplinary arts
and technology program that will get you in touch with
your own
creativity and prepare you for work in the real world. We combine
traditional arts training and the latest technological advances. CAT
offers concentrations in fine arts, theatre,
music technology,
graphics, animation, digital video and interactive multimedia and
game development.
The CAT Core Curriculum
As a CAT student you take a sequence of
courses that introduce you to the eight
CAT disciplines and build your skills as a
creative professional. These courses reveal
your inner talents and awaken you to the
creative possibilities of an interdisciplinary
program in the arts.
General Education
All Bloomfield College students are
required to take liberal arts courses that
develop competencies in scientific and
technological literacy, aesthetic appreciation,
writing and speaking, critical
thinking, multicultural awareness, and
professional skills. General Education is
the essential foundation of your academic
and artistic development. |
Internships - Learning on the Job
The CAT faculty, together with the professionals
in the Office of Career Services, will help you find
interesting and demanding internships. Our students
have landed internships at HBO, Disney, Montclair
Art Museum, the U.S. ceanographic Institute,
Alijira Gallery, Graphics Studios, MTV, Ebony
Magazine, Mobile Studios, Aurasonic Ltd., MSNBC
and Silver Cup Studios.
Going on to Graduate School
Many of our students complete their bachelor’s
degree and are hungry for more formal training.
Our graduates have gone on to study at some of the
nation’s most rigorous art schools: Parsons, Tisch
School of the Arts, Mason Gross School of the Arts,
and the School of Visual Arts.
Artists and Teachers
The CAT faculty are actors, jazz musicians,
printmakers, cartoonists, animators, singers, pianists,
comedians, poets, performance artists, clowns,
television producers, choreographers, stage managers,
graphic designers, writers, fine artists and instillation
artists. The CAT faculty are experts in their respective
fields who hold PhD’s and MFA degrees. In the CAT
classrooms you learn from professionals who merge
the traditional arts with the latest technology.
Career Preparation - Your Portfolio
All CAT majors must complete an internship in a
professional setting such as a theatre, publishing
house, production company or television studio.
We mentor you in your professional and portfolio
development. Your senior capstone course is a major
independent project that will be part of the portfolio
you will use to market yourself after graduation. This
may be the production of a videotape, CD-ROM,
DVD or website, a gallery exhibition or solo performance.
Your choice of project depends upon your
talents and area of specialization. |
