In addition to the courses listed below, which are the requirements for the major, students are also responsible for general education courses which are found on pages 57-61.
Chemistry majors are exempted from the two Natural Science courses under Limited Selections. MTH 113 is required for all Chemistry majors.
Many courses have prerequisites which are listed in the course descriptions. Please be sure that necessary prerequisites have been taken before enrolling in any course.
Students wishing to be eligible for a New Jersey Teaching Certificate must be admitted into the B.A. in Education and satisfy the courses listed in the Chemistry (Physical Science) co-concentration (see pages 151-152). Should a student decide to major in the discipline exclusively, he/she will need to submit a change of major declaration and satisfy all the requirement listed below. Students who wish to double major must complete the requirements of both majors.
The following core of common courses is required of all chemistry majors:
-
CHM 111 General Chemistry I
-
CHM 112 General Chemistry II
-
CHM 301 Organic Chemistry I
-
CHM 301L Laboratory-CHM 301
