The Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences BS-CLS is a joint degree offered with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey -School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP).
Bloomfield College, in conjunction with UMDNJ, offers a four-year program leading to a B.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The degree has three possible tracks: medical technology, cytotechnology and toxicology. Students must complete a three-year, (96 or 98 credit) pre-professional component at Bloomfield College and a 15-month professional component at UMDNJ (Newark).
In addition to the courses listed below, which are the requirements for the major, students are also responsible for the following General Education courses: IDS 161, ENG 106, ENG 107, HUM GELS (2 c.u.s), ENG/HUM/PSC 208, one course from Arts as Catalyst (AAC), two courses from Social Sciences and one and one half courses outside the Division of Natural Science and Mathematics.
Students and advisors should be aware that courses have prerequisites that are listed in the course descriptions. Please make sure that the necessary prerequisites have been taken before enrolling in any course.
Bloomfield College students who have earned 96 or 98 credits by completing the above General Education courses, the professional courses required by the specific major concentration (survey courses in these sciences do not meet the requirements), prerequisites and/or electives, may be admitted to UMDNJ for the remaining professional courses if they have also fulfilled the following requirements.
1. Students must have been in residence at Bloomfield College for a minimum of 8 courses.
2. Students must have achieved an overall grade point average of 2.75 (4.0=A) and grades of C or better in all required science and mathematics courses.
