Welcome to the Criminal Justice concentration offered by the Sociology Department.

Our goal is to prepare students for a career in the highly competitive field of criminal justice. Whether your future career is in law, policing, corrections, government or counseling, our program gives you the academic and practical foundation to make your career dreams possible.

Through a combination of coursework, internships, and research projects, graduates are prepared to enter a career in criminal justice or to pursue advanced studies in law, criminology/criminal justice or sociology.


Coursework

The program offers broad foundational courses drawing upon sociology, political science, psychology, management, public administration, criminology, and law. With an average of 15 students, small classes allow the faculty to get to know students individually and help them determine their specific area of interest.

Faculty

The faculty are a dedicated group of individuals with extensive practical experience in police work, corrections, courts, criminology and sociology.

Internships

The program has a strong working relationship with criminal justice agencies throughout the region. Students are encouraged to spend a semester interning at one of these agencies in order to get hands-on experience. This provides students an opportunity to make the connections which will help them in their future career paths.
