The College accepts freshman applicants, transfer students, and R.N.’s who are graduates of associate degree and diploma programs. Freshmen and transfer students may apply to the Nursing Major. Listed below are the admission criteria which apply to freshman applicants and transfer applicants.
In addition to the courses listed below, which are the requirements for the major, students are also responsible for general education courses which are found under Graduation Requirements.
For Nursing majors, the two Natural Science and Social Science requirements are included in the major.
Many courses have prerequisites which are listed in the course descriptions. Please be sure that necessary prerequisites have been successfully completed before enrolling in any course.
Criteria for Admission to NUR 225
Admission to the nursing major formally begins with entry into NUR225 Professional Role Development. In order to qualify for the program, all students must have completed the following requirements:

GPA of 2.5 minimum in the following six courses:
ENG 106, ENG 107, mth 113, bio 200, CHM 120, and psy 245, all with minimum grade of C. -
Successful achievement on the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination-RN. The exam must be taken in the spring semester prior to the fall semester of entering NUR 225. The exam may be taken ONLYTWICE.

Health clearance must be obtained from the College Health Service. Students are not eligible to participate in clinical nursing experiences if health requirements are not met.

Students enrolled in clinical courses must provide evidences of American Health Association CPR certification.
Licensure
The State Board of Nursing determines who is eligible to take the registered nurse examination (NCLEX-RN). Graduation from the nursing program satisfies one of the eligibility requirements. There are other eligibility requirements as well. Since eligibility requirements may vary candidates should consult with the Board of Nursing of the state in which they plan to take the registered nurse examination.
College Transfer Students
Students may transfer course credits from other colleges or universities. The following stipulations apply:
A. Minimum GPA of 2.5.
B. Transfer of nursing courses subject to
evaluation by the Division of
Nursing.
C. For generic transfer students, courses required to enter the nursing major may not be transferred if six years or older.
Nursing Major Requirements
A major in nursing must successfully complete the general education curriculum. This consists of the following common core courses: ENG 106 and ENG 107, Sophomore Core, ECN 102, CMP 102. In addition to the common core, students must also complete MTH 113, Humanities, and Arts as Catalyst courses. The natural sciences and social science requirements are included in the nursing major.

Requirements for Progression in the Nursing Major
Students may progress to successive courses based upon their ability to demonstrate:

Satisfactory academic achievement of grades of C or better in course content*.

Satisfactory completion of clinical objectives as measured through the clinical evaluation tool. A clinical failure constitutes a failure in the entire course!

Only one nursing course (NUR designation) may be attempted twice or repeated once. A withdrawal or a failing grade (C- or less) on the second attempt necessitates withdrawal from the major.

All Freshman courses must be successfully completed before entering NUR 225. All freshman and sophomore courses must be successfully completed before entering NUR 307 and/or NUR 336. All freshman, sophomore, and junior courses must be successfully completed before entering NUR 402 and NUR 404.
*An average of 70% or better on tests is required to pass all courses in Nursing.
R.N. Students
Graduates of diploma and associate degree programs in nursing may apply as registered nurses for admission as matriculated candidates for the B.S. degree with a major in nursing. R.N.'s who have college credits should apply as transfer students.
R.N. students seeking admission to Bloomfield College pursuant to a B.S. degree should:

Complete general admissions application for registered nurses with accompanying $35.00 non-refundable fee.

Forward official transcripts of all work pursued at other academic institu-tions.
-
Forward two personal recommendations, one from a previous instructor and one from an employer.
-
Show proof of R.N. licensure in the State of New Jersey. R.N.'s licensed in other states must obtain New Jersey licensure.
-
Forward copies of liability/malpractice insurance with minimum coverage of $1,000,000/$3,000,000.
-
CPR and health clearance are required for clinical courses.
R.N. students will be expected to meet all Bloomfield College requirements for graduation, including the residency requirement of at least eight courses.
Nursing Policy for R.N. Students
Bloomfield College will accept coursework taken at other accredited institutions for credit toward the degree, provided it meets the College criteria.
A maximum of 16 course units may be earned through CLEP, Excelsior College Examinations, and evaluation of previous nursing courses.

Should R.N. students feel that they have expertise in any of these content areas through transfer credit or life experience, they may petition the faculty for waiver.
N.B. All-College and General Education requirements MUST be met, even if additional courses may be required.
In accordance with the Bloomfield College residency policy, a transfer student must take at least eight course units at Bloomfield College to graduate
