It's virtually impossible for most other schools to match the academic and personal support structure available to students at Bloomfield College. The culture of the College is built around this mission. And the school's focus is unmistakable: to provide every student the resources and individualized attention they need to turn their dreams into action and accomplishment.

Resources and Individualized Attention

Academic Support
Individual needs vary. Some students may need to sharpen writing or math skills; others will look for help in mastering an upper-level technology or science course, or in preparing for a high-pressure professional exam; international students or non-native speakers may seek to strengthen their English for academic work.

Whatever the scenario, individual advisors and faculty members as well as the staff of the College's Center for Academic Development (CAD) dedicate themselves to delivering a level of academic and personal support that sets Bloomfield apart from its peers.

The College's computerized, Web-based placement testing service also provides students a convenient and efficient tool for determining their proficiency in both math and English. This speeds test results and enables the Center to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses and direct students quickly to the right tutor or study group. Tutorial scheduling is also computerized and Web-based, enabling students to schedule their individualized study programs in line with their classes and extracurricular calendars. Intensive tutoring and language labs are available during both day and evening hours.

Key Programs

  • Pre-freshman math and English review for students who seek to strengthen core skills before commencing college-level classes
  • Individual and small-group tutoring for nearly every academic subject and course, ranging from English composition to advanced inorganic chemistry
  • Preparation sessions for pre-professional exams for nursing, education and nursing licensing, graduate school and law school
  • Opportunities for returning students to tutor and mentor freshmen and to work on their own projects with CAD faculty
  • Support and advocacy for disabled students

Honors and Arts as Catalyst Programs
For students of exceptional ability and motivation, the Honors program at Bloomfield offers special seminars, independent projects, regular discussions with faculty mentors, and the opportunity to study abroad. The Arts as Catalyst program organizes trips to museums, galleries, and Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. On campus, it sponsors events ranging from poetry, jazz and theatre productions to art exhibits and film festivals.

The Wellness Center
The Wellness Center is composed of the offices for Health Services and Personal Counseling as well as the Chaplaincy. Its purpose is to care for the physical, spiritual and emotional well-being of the college community. Services include medical care and personal counseling, which are completely confidential, and a full-time health professional is available 24 hours a day. Workshops are also sponsored by the Center to promote issues like healthier living, interfaith dialogue and community outreach.

A Safe and Secure Campus
Bloomfield College provides a safe and secure campus for students, faculty, administrative staff, employees and visitors. The College's facilities are for use by students and College employees, all of whom carry Bloomfield College ID cards and present them when requested by College security personnel. The College community also joins in College-sponsored safety education and awareness programs. And students and staff actively cooperate individually to keep the College safe and secure.
