| Shavon knew from a very young age that he would be going to college. That’s what his mother wanted, and he knew he wouldn’t disappoint her. Today, Shavon is a first-generation college student and is excelling in and out of the classroom. He has grown into a well-rounded and dynamic young man. He attributes a large part of his maturation to his experiences at Bloomfield College, but we know that there is a deeper driving force behind his seemingly endless positive energy. Shavon wants to see his mother smile when he receives his degree. | |
| During his time at Bloomfield College, Shavon has put together a very impressive list of accolades and achievements. He has worked as a Resident Advisor for the last two years and was recently named Resident Advisor of the Year. For the last three years, he has served as President of the Male Empowerment Network (M.E.N.) and received a Community Service Award for the organization's volunteer efforts. He has also served as Co-Coordinator for the Residence Life Development Program and Vice President of Organizational Affairs for the BC Student Government. In his free time, you can find Shavon reciting poetry at Westminster Hall or leading his intramural basketball team to victory. |

What is the best thing about Bloomfield?:
|
Wow, there are a lot of things. I would say it’s the ability to make connections and develop relationships with students, faculty and staff. It is easy to make a difference and have your voice heard here. |
|
Favorite Class at BC: |
African American Literature. It was great to learn about African American authors that I had never been exposed to before. Also, I learned a lot about conducting research and quoting practices for term papers. |
|
The college is really committed to working with and helping the neighboring communities. Coming from Jersey City, I really didn’t know what to expect. What I found was a strong group of local students co-existing with out-of-state and international students. It makes for a really cool atmosphere. |

Career Goals: |
Become a School Principal and eventually start my own school. I would also like to work in higher education in the student affairs field. |
