Which standardized tests does Bloomfield College require?
For graduating high school students, Bloomfield College requires either SAT or ACT scores.
Are SAT II tests required?
No.
Are there minimum GPA or SAT requirements for admission?
The minimum SAT requirement is 900 for incoming freshman. The minimum GPA is 2.7.
What does Bloomfield College look for in a prospective student?
Bloomfield College looks at the student's "total package". Being a "well rounded" candidate is important. However, grades, SAT scores, and the number of honors courses taken are three of the most important factors in determining admission to the college.
How important are letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation allow Bloomfield College to gain a better understanding of a student's potential. They also allow the admission staff to gain knowledge of the student as a person, and not just "their numbers."
Can you apply online?
Yes, Bloomfield College does accept online applications. Students can apply here to begin the process now.
Should I schedule an interview?
While an interview is not required, it is certainly recommended. An interview may enable the Bloomfield College admission staff to learn more about the student as a person, rather than just looking at the student's grades and test scores. Please call the Admission Office to set up an interview.
How can I get an application?

TRANSFER ADMISSION
How many credits should a student complete before transferring?
Students who have completed 15 or more college-level credits at another college or university, are eligible to be a direct transfer student. If a student has completed less than 15 credits, Bloomfield College requires a copy of their high school transcript.
What GPA should I have in order to be a transfer candidate?
In order to be admitted to Bloomfield College as a transfer student, students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher from their previous institution.
How many credits would I be able to transfer?
The Office of Admission will evaluate transcripts of prior collegiate work by students who enter as transfer students. In general, only college level courses in which a grade of C or better was earned will be considered for transfer credit. Preparatory/developmental courses taken at prior institutions will not be accepted.
INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION
Are international students eligible for financial aid?
International students are not eligible for either federal or N.J. state aid. All international students must identify a sponsor who will be responsible for tuition and living expenses during their enrollment. While students are not eligible for federal or state financial aid, they are eligible for institutional aid.
What is the first step in the admission process for an international student?
Student's must submit a completed application and a $35 USD non-refundable application fee.
What documents do international applicants need to submit to Bloomfield College?
In addition to the completed application, you must submit official documents that certify the equivalent of a USA high school education. If you are a transfer student from another college, you must also send official college transcripts. All documents must be in English. If college courses were taken at an institution outside the USA, transcripts must be translated and evaluated by the World Education Service (WES) at the applicant's expense.

Is it necessary to take a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam for entrance into Bloomfield College?
Yes. TOEFL score of 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based will be required by Bloomfield College.
Students currently in the U.S. have the option of testing with the Bloomfield College EAP office as an alternative to the TOEFL exam.
ACADEMICS
How large are the classes?
The average class size at Bloom:field College is 14 students. Most classes at Bloomfield College have a cap of 25 students per section.
Who will be teaching my classes?
The Faculty currently consists of 66 full-time professors (26 male, 40 female) and 156 adjunct professors. Many of our faculty are national leaders in scholarship, developing innovative ways to meet the intellectual, social and demographic changes in society. More than 100 organizations around the country have invited Bloomfield faculty and administrators to discuss the work of the College.

Is there a core curriculum?
The common core curriculum consists of six and a half course units of English, Humanities, Economics, Math, Science, and Computer Literacy courses, plus a Freshman Seminar.
What about internships?
The Office of Career Services maintains information on a variety of internships. You will be able to explore a wide range of internship possibilities so that you can find the experience that best fits your career goals. You will also be well prepared to apply for the internship because you will receive assistance in creating a dynamic resume and cover letter, as well as an opportunity to learn and practice great interviewing skills.

How do I apply for financial aid?
The following are steps in applying for scholarships and financial aid:
1. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and mail it to the Federal Student Aid Programs (address is indicated on the form). Use the Bloomfield College federal code number of 002597 when completing the form. FAFSA Form Online .
2. Complete a Bloomfield College Application for Financial Assistance, attaching verification of income to the form. Verification of income may be a copy of the parents' and the student's IRS 1040 (Federal Income Tax Return) and/or an official statement from any agency providing the family's non taxable income or benefits (such as: welfare, unemployment, Veteran's or Social Security Benefits, etc.).
When do I apply for aid?
In awarding grants and scholarships, the College makes every effort to assist needy students. Students are encouraged to apply by the financial aid priority deadline of March 15th. Applying by the priority deadline will maximize your chances of receiving institutional scholarships and campus-based funds. Financial aid is awarded annually and, therefore, new applications must be completed each year.
Will applying for financial aid hurt my chances for admission?
Absolutely not, it is recommended that all students apply for financial aid. More than 90% of Bloomfield College students receive aid.

STUDENT LIFE
What do students do outside of class?
There are more than 30 active student organizations serving a wide variety of student interests. These interests might focus on social activities, academic advancement, ethnic pride and exploration, leadership development, or other issues of special interest to students. Students are invited to investigate, join, and participate in the organizations that interest them.
Does Bloomfield College offer housing to all undergraduates?
Bloomfield College provides a residential program for students who wish to live on campus. Priority for on-campus housing is given to freshmen and to students who live beyond a reasonable commuting distance. Housing is available during the summer session for a limited number of students attending classes.
What services do you provide for commuter students?
Commuter students are encouraged to participate in all student activities. There are a number of locations and services popular among our commuter students. Study areas are available in the Science Building and Library. Snack Bar counter service is available in the College Center for the community during scheduled operating hours in the morning, afternoon, and early evening. The school’s Wellness Center, Cafeteria, Health Services Office and Career Services offer a variety of services to all commuter students. Services include personal counseling, relaxation and stress management workshops, routine physical check ups (diabetes, high blood pressure, flue shots, etc), resume building sessions, career fairs with potential employers, workshops on math anxiety, and much, much more.
Do you have many clubs available for students?
Bloomfield College offers more than 30 different kinds of clubs to students. There are athletic clubs, music oriented clubs, and academic clubs, just to name a few types. For example, the Capoeira Club is a Brazilian dance and martial arts club. Or the Psychology Club, which promotes interest in the field of psychology. What about sports and athletics?
Intercollegiate athletics have traditionally been an integral part of the College experience. Bloomfield's Athletic Program offers men and women a wide range of sports opportunities. These include full schedules in men's and women's soccer, men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, and women's volleyball and softball, and men's cross-country. The College is a provisional member of NCAA Division II and a member of NAIA, CACC, and NJAIAW. All are welcome to try out for the varsity teams. The athletic staff gives athletes the chance to prove their skills with the result that Bloomfield teams often include talented "walk-ons." Prior to the beginning of the season, contact the coaches at the gymnasium for information on how to try out for a team in which you have an interest.
Questions Commonly Asked by Incoming Residence Hall Students
When is my housing deposit due?
The preferred application deadline date is December. Please note that all applications are processed in the order they are received, so you are encouraged to submit your application as early as possible.
How would my room be selected for me?
You will be assigned to a room based upon what’s available on a male or female floor. We match roommates based upon responses given to the questions on the application regarding smoking and study habits.
Does Bloomfield College have any special housing options?
Not for first year students! All first year students live in Clee Hall, which is dedicated to the BC First Year Resident experience. It’s a small hall, which holds 103 resident students. It has a community bathroom, average size bedrooms with furniture (includes: bed, dresser, mirror, desk, garbage can, closet) and a lounge located on the lower level of the building with T.V, VCR, microwave, and vending machines.
Can I choose my roomate?
You can request to be housed with a specific student as long as you submit his or her name to the Office of Residence Life when you apply. It is important that your requested roommate submit his or her application for housing at approximately the same time also listing you as their requested roommate. (Completely empty rooms for fall are scarce, so we may not be able to accommodate all roommate requests.)
When can I move into my room in the Fall ?
The residence halls are scheduled to open for the first-year students on August 30, 2005.
Do I have to move out of my room during breaks?
Yes and No. During the winter break we ask that all students completely move out of their rooms. During the Thanksgiving and spring break we ask that all students leave just for the break and during the Easter break you do not have to leave or move out. If you are in a hardship situation you must make an appointment to meet with the Associate Director of Residence Life to make living arrangements. During the winter, spring and Thanksgiving breaks students do not have access to their room.
When will I be notified of who my roomate will be ?
In your BC Residence Life packet there’s a form with your roommate’s name and mailing address. Resident students are encouraged to contact their roommate in order to get acquainted and to decide on what to bring to the room.
What is the cost of room and board on campus?
The current semester room rates are:
$3,700 per semester: total for the year is $7,400
$3,850 per semester for a single: total for the year is $7,700
Am I required to be on a meal plan as a new student?
Yes. All entering first year, transfer & new resident students are required to be on the meal plan: It’s a 19 meal plan (breakfast, lunch and dinner 5 days a week) and on the weekend (brunch and dinner).
When do I sign up for a meal plan?
In your packet there’s a form that you should complete. Please send the form back to the Residence Life Department.
Are microwaves allowed in the residence halls?
NO! Only microwaves in the lounges that are provided by the college are allowed.
NO! Pots, toasters, small ovens, air conditioners, and space heaters are allowed.
