Photo: StudentsWhen you pursue your degree at Bloomfield College, it will be in a place where classes are small by design. Where professors and students collaborate. And where a culture of discovery and mutual respect is the norm. Professors are accessible. Actively engaged in your life. Ready to listen, advise and help you push harder and further to get to where you want to go.

When you pursue your degree

A Different Model
At many colleges and universities, professors concentrate primarily on research. When they lecture, it’s to large groups in large auditoriums. Their priorities are their own fields of study. Day-to-day teaching is left to assistants. At Bloomfield, we have a different model. Here, professors know you by your first name just days after you start classes. Some students interact daily with their professors. Not just about what's happening in the classroom, but about what’s happening in their lives. By the time you graduate, you may discover you count one of your professors among your closest friends and greatest role models and mentors.

Path of Learning
College is a time of transition, transformation, exploration and preparation. This understanding shapes Bloomfield’s general education curriculum, which is designed to achieve two fundamental goals for the benefit of each student:

  1. Stimulate intellectual interests and help each student explore topics within broad areas of knowledge, i.e., humanities, sciences, arts.
  2. Ensure that each student masters fundamental skills necessary to succeeding professionally and personally in the years ahead

Key Competencies
The College has identified seven key competencies, or requirements, that each student should be able to meet upon graduation. Our general education program ensures that you will learn these fundamentals:

  • Aesthetic appreciation
  • Communication skills: written and oral
  • Community orientation/citizenship
  • Multicultural and multiracial awareness
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Professional skills
  • Scientific and technological skills
