The ideal of a modern liberal arts education is individual and collective empowerment. Empowering you to identify, pursue, live and enjoy the life you envision. Equipping you with the intellectual, social, creative and practical skills you’ll need not only to succeed - but to give back to your community - at every stage of your life. The explosive speed of change in the world is not about to slow down. The hot job of the moment will be history tomorrow. So now more than ever your ability to keep learning, to keep mastering new skills, and to keep growing, adapting, and enjoying new challenges and new people of every race, creed and color is absolutely vital. |
Here’s what a Bloomfield College liberal arts education will help you do:
- Identify what excites you, what makes you happy both personally and professionally;
- Develop the ability to be a lifelong learner, for both professional and personal fulfillment
- Write clearly, speak persuasively, read deeply, and analyze and reason soundly;
- Open your mind to new experiences, possibilities, friends, opportunities and contacts;
- Challenge you intellectually to discover your role in the global community;
- Provide you opportunities to give back to your community;
- Help you engage and relate to others whose backgrounds and experiences are different from your own;
- Provide you the skills to land your first post-college job and provide you the intellectual foundation to grow into your second, third and fourth jobs as you climb the career ladder;
- Give you the academic, professional and personal skills to design the future you want for yourself and others.
A Multicultural and Global Society
Bloomfield College is absolutely
committed to the ideal of our nation as a land of opportunity.
Since the College’s
founding in 1868, our mission has been to help first-generation
college students attain an education as a critical stepping
stone to
realizing their dreams. This college was founded to train German-speaking
ministers. They in turn helped thousands of new German immigrants
make their way in this country.
Today, Bloomfield College is serving and educating a new generation of strivers. They are true pioneers, often the first members of their family to attend college. Many come from other countries and cultures. Some speak two or three languages. And most live and work in the diverse neighborhoods and towns that make up the mosaic of metropolitan New Jersey.
As globalization picks up speed, this human diversity is a huge strength—and Bloomfield College is committed to leveraging that strength for the benefit of both our students and New Jersey. A digital technology executive quoted in the Wall Street Journal says it all: “Diversity spurs creativity, inventiveness and new insights.”
At Bloomfield College, diversity in the service of a greater strength and unity is part of our mission.
A Message from the President
"Many
students want the individualized attention and teaching
that takes place only in the environment of a small college.
This is the hallmark of Bloomfield: the close interaction
between faculty and students. What we offer is a liberal
arts education that prepares you for a world where your
ability to reason, think critically and be intellectually
flexible are absolutely critical. It’s also a career-focused
education rich in the business, technical and practical
training so clearly needed by all students.”
Richard Levao
President of Bloomfield College
