The CAT division has a well established interdisciplinary collaborative environment that includes majors in Animation, Digital Video, Graphics, Interactive Multimedia, Music, and Theater. All of these areas are integral to the design and development of games, and foster a creative community of students and faculty that support the program at every level.

For programmers, the CAT division has a close association with the Computer Information Systems division, and runs the Game Development Programming Track alongside the CIS Programming Concentration. Programming students from both majors work with Game Development Design Track students to create games in personal projects, and for CAT408, the Game Development Project class.

The CAT labs are primarily Macintosh G5s, which is still the premier development platform for graphics, video, and music. There is a high definition (HD) video lab, an animation lab, a graphics lab and print shop, a music lab with a private recording studio, 2D capture stations, and a green screen room for live action video sequences. There is also an in-house art gallery and production theater that seats 300.

The social environment within CAT consists of a close-knit group of students, faculty, alumni, and community members that supports the creative endeavors of individuals and groups.
