CTLT - Faculty Technology Lab

The Faculty Technology Lab, equipped with state-of the art technology, has been functioning to provide a wide range of technology services to faculty and campus since spring semester. It is a place for faculty to explore new technology for teaching and learning, share experience in using instructional technology with other faculty in a small group, learn new technology, and develop multimedia materials for classroom and online teaching. The Lab is also an ideal place for faculty who is interested in one-on-one working session for technologies in teaching and for technology development.  The Lab was designed for faculty and is to be used by faculty.

The equipment in the lab include one Apple G5, two Pentium IV 3.0 GHz PCs, a video editing system, a stereo audio deck, a high resolution scanner, a DVD burner, a digital still camera, and a digital video camera, and a color laser printer, along with many new software for multimedia development.  It has capabilities of capturing, editing and streaming video and audio, digitizing images; designing graphics and web; and creating CD and DVD discs.  All computers in the Lab are networked with access to the Internet and Blackboard. The Lab is also equipped with a laptop mobile cart of 20 IBM laptop computers for faculty technology development and workshops.

What can you can do with facilities in this lab:

  • Convert photo prints into digital format and them on the Web, in your email and Blackboard course site, and PowerPoint presentation etc.
  • Take a photo of classroom activities and share it with your classroom instantly for some fun and enrichment
  • Put the video clips in your Blackboard course site
  • Shoot video for class activities and field trips, share them with class or put on the Blackboard site for review and discussion.
  • Create digital image for your course or instructional materials
  • Develop interactive tutorial for your course
  • Get help in planning on and developing your multimedia project with embedded audio, video, graphics, animation and text
  • Transfer audio and  video from tape to CD or DVD disk to be playback in class or home on computer or DVD player
  • Record your personal audio and edit it with special effects such as echo, fade in and fade out, etc.
  • Add photos, titles, transition and audio to an existing video clip like a professional and record back to the tape for playback on VCR, and many other things. 
  • Create podcast in Garageband, or publish a PowerPoint presentation as podcast in Blackboard or on the Web.
