Respndus and StudyMate

Bloomfield College has acquired campus-wide license for both Respodus and StudyMate. Center for Teaching and Learning with Technology (CTLT) provides full support to faculty for using both software.

Respondus 3.5 is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard, and other eLearning systems. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment, or moved from one eLearning system to another. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or relatively new to it, Respondus will save you hours on each project.

Respondus Features

  • Respondus Includes distinct user environments (called "personalities") for Blackboard and other elearning system. You can create exams and assessments offline using a Windows interface. It supports up to 15 question types, including calculated and algorithmic formats. You can also import questions from MS Word (including embedded images), rich-text, QTI and tab/comma delimited formats. You can "Spell check" an entire exam file (includes dictionaries for American English, Canadian English, British English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, and a comprehensive medical dictionary) Add tables, bulleted lists, font changes, and enhanced formatting (e.g. bold, italics) just like in a word processor Insert mathematical and scientific symbols using the Respondus Equation Editor or MathType Embed graphics, audio, and video without writing or viewing the underlying HTML Resize graphics and convert them to JPEG format with one click Add links to multimedia content on other servers with the Web Links tool
  • You can preview questions before publishing them to the server Publish exams and assessments directly to an online course (media files are automatically uploaded) A “batch publish” feature allows assessments and surveys to be published to multiple courses in a single step** Determine point values and exam settings offline
  • Print exams/surveys directly from Respondus, or save files to MS Word or rich-text format

StudyMate lets you create ten Flash-based activities and games using four simple templates. The Flash activities can be used with any web server or published directly to a Blackboard, course. StudyMate will import items from MS Word files and publisher test banks, making it easy to create interesting, interactive activities from existing content. Best of all, you don’t have to know Flash programming or HTML to use StudyMate.

StudyMate Features

  • Preview activities and games before generating the Flash object Select only the activities and games wanted for the final Flash object Publish activities directly to Blackboard.
  • Export activities as a SCORM 1.2 learning object or as a standard Flash (.swf) object.
  • Print questions or items directly from StudyMate, or save them to MS Word or rich-text format

Download Respondus and StudyMate

Respondus and StudyMate can be downloaded on Collcge's web site. Steps to download Repondus and StudyMate:

  1. Go to Web site http://campus.bloomfield.edu/it/downloads.asp.
  2. Click Faculty/Staff Only
  3. Use your College account username and password to login
  4. right-clilck on the software you want to download, select "Save Target As.."
  5. After downloading to your local computer, you can double-click to start instalaltion.
  6. Use the information provided on the Web to activate the applicaiton.
