Students applying for financial aid are considered for all programs for which they are eligible. The amount awarded is generally a combination of grants, loans, and employment and is based on the student’s financial need. Need is determined by subtracting the resources of the student and his or her parents’ contribution from the total expenses. The parents’ contribution is estimated on the basis of the amount of their income and assets as well as the size of family and the number of children in college.

The Financial Aid Office determines all aid awards on the basis of the Federal Methodology which has been legislated by the federal government. The College makes every effort to provide financial aid which approximates or equals financial need and attempts to provide a financial aid package which is sensitive to the student’s circumstances.

Total educational debt is considered in awarding loans so that no one student accrues an excessive amount of debt unless there are unique family circumstances. Jobs provide funds as they are earned, and students usually apply these funds to non-direct costs.

In awarding grants and scholarships, the College makes every effort to assist needy students. Students are encouraged to apply by March 15 in order to insure a timely response. After a student files the appropriate applications, the data is reviewed and evaluated. Notice of results is sent to the applicant with additional instructions. These instructions should be read and carefully followed in order to insure receipt of the award.

The amount of financial aid granted to any student is based on the extent of need, funds available and demonstrated academic progress toward a degree. The Bursar’s Office bills students each term. Students must pay or make arrangements for payment before the first day of classes. Students are eligible for deferments based on evidence of financial assistance (such as an application for a Stafford Student Loan). Financial aid is disbursed each semester as a credit to the student’s account.

Changes in financial circumstances often make it necessary to update and re-evaluate an aid application. Parents and students with altered family situations should notify the Financial Aid Office regarding such changes. Financial aid is awarded annually and, therefore, new applications must be completed each year. Continuation of aid will be based on documented financial need, academic standing, and availability of funds.

In addition to the general tuition and fees described in the previous section of this catalog, students should anticipate the following estimate of expenses associated with attending the College during the 2008-2009 school year.
