2. Create your website with FrontPage
Learning the basics of FrontPage should be relatively simple for those who have used Microsoft word or any other word processing application.
When you first run FrontPage, you will see a screen like this:
You may see an additional menu at the left, called the Views Bar. This is not a particularly useful menu, and you will probably want to remove it to make space on your screen. To do so, simply go to the View menu and deselect the Views Bar option.
(Tip: By default, FrontPage hides some useful menu options. If you want to make sure you see everything, go to the Tools menu and select Customize. Make sure the box that says "Menus show recently used commands first" is not checked.)
The first step in designing your site may vary slightly depending on your particular situation, such as if you are building on an existing site or using a template. If so, the webmaster can instruct you on how to proceed. This tutorial assumes you are building a new site from scratch.
Go to the File Menu and choose New | Web
You will see a box like this:
In the left-hand panel are various pre-designed templates for websites. Unless you have the particular needs described in the titles, you should probably select "Empty Web." On the right, you are asked to specify a location for your new web. We want to create a "working copy" of the website on your computer's hard drive. You can use any folder name you like. In the example above, the new site will be created in the Website folder on the C: drive. Type your location and press OK.
Remember to use proper syntax when typing the location: C:\foldername
You should now see some folders appear in the left pane of your FrontPage window:
You are now ready to start designing your website.
