3. Add Content to your site
You can now begin to design the individual pages of your website. To open a page for editing, simply double-click it in the Navigation panel or in the Folder List. The file will be displayed in the right-hand panel. In order to edit full-screen, you can hide and restore the Folder List using the button on the toolbar.
Themes
When you open one of your new pages, it will appear completely blank. At this point, you may wish to begin designing the pages yourself, or use one of FrontPage's pre-designed Themes. You can view the available themes by choosing Theme in the Format menu.
You will then see a window allowing you to preview the available page themes. To choose and apply a theme, select it from the list, make sure that "Apply to All Pages" is selected, and press OK. (You can also modify the theme's fonts and colors by pressing the Modify button.) Depending on which Theme you have chosen, you may not see any change to the blank page you were editing, or you may see only a background.
Navigation Menus
FrontPage can automatically create navigation menus for your site using the Shared Borders feature. Activate this feature by selecting Shared Borders in the Format menu. A configuration window will appear:
Make sure you check "Include navigation buttons" if you want menus to automatically appear on all your pages. Menus are generally placed on the top and/or left, but you can also choose to place them on the right or bottom of each page.
An alternate use of the Shared Border is to display a message or graphic which will appear on every page in your web. For example, a logo or copyright notice.
Your decision here is not final: you can always access this window again by returning to the Format | Shared Borders menu option.
Once you hit OK, the page open in the editor will display your Shared Borders in style of the Theme you selected earlier. You can further customize your Navigation Bars by right clicking in the area of the Shared Border and selecting Navigation Bar Properties. This window will allow you to select which pages in your navigation structure should appear as navigation links. You can also choose whether you want your links to appear as text or as graphical buttons, and how they should be aligned, horizontally or vertically.
If you opted to use no Theme, your shared borders will appear as dotted lines. Anything you place within those lines -- text, graphics, etc -- will appear by default on all of your pages.
The best (or only) way to fully understand this feature is to experiment with it yourself until you find the configuration you like. Note that changes you make to Shared Borders affect all pages; you do not have to change the settings on each individual page. If you want to remove a Shared Border or Navigation Bar from a single page, you can access the Shared Borders window (see above) and change the settings, making sure that "Current page" is selected, rather than "All pages."
