Little Guy Wins

February 14, 2008
"An EDGE OF YOUR SEAT ADVENTURE loaded with UNBELIEVABLE real-life surprises!"
"HILARIOUS and AMAZING!"
"JAW-DROPPINGLY FUNNY!!"
"An INVIGORATING ROLLER COASTER RIDE!!"

Patrick Combs, a career development speaker and writer, had a flight of fancy one day. Having received a check in the mail for $95,093.35 as part of a promotional package for a get-rich-quick method, he decided to see what would happen if he deposited the check in his account. Despite the fact that the check had "non-negotiable" posted in the corner, the bank not only deposited it, but credited his account for that sum. The rest of the story is about how big business is sometimes too big and gets tangled in its own bureaucratic web.

"Ralph Waldo Emerson boldly states, ‘Don't be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment’," says Patrick Combs. "In May of 1995, I suddenly found myself smack in the middle of a very unusual 'life experiment.'"

Man 1: Bank 0 is the true account of Combs’ journey through that tangled web as he first worked to prove that the money was bogus, and then worked to prove that it was not. Along the way he got quite an education about banking laws, and as his story got out, he was held up as a champion of the little guy.

The show has played Off-Broadway for a month and rave reviews such as "Fastest, funniest, most fascinating show to hit New York in many a season." It has also played across the country in theatres and colleges and Combs has been invited to numerous Comedy and Play Festivals.

Combs will bring his humorous story to the Westminster Arts Center at Bloomfield College on Friday and Saturday, February 15 and 16 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $8 for seniors, and $4 for BC students. Call 973-748-9008, x279 for reservations.
