Bloomfield College agrees to a new relationship with Daejeon Health Science College
March 31, 2008 - Bloomfield College’s long history of global education has a new chapter. On March 20, 2008, Dr. Kang Il Lee, president of Daejeon Health Sciences College, and Dr. Dong Chan Lee, international program director of same, visited with Bloomfield College President Richard Levao and Dr. Peter Jeong, vice president for technology and professional studies. The purpose of their visit was to sign an agreement to investigate how the two institutions could work together with student and faculty exchanges for both general education and with the nursing and allied health programs.
Daejong Health Science College, located in Daejong, South Korea, has approximately 6500 students and offers allied health and science curricula. Drs. Lee and Lee were very impressed with the science lab and the nursing division and would like to develop an exchange program to send Korean students interested in nursing, allied health, and the sciences to Bloomfield College to study. Bloomfield College has a reputation for welcoming international students and supporting their efforts with English as a second language (ESL) classes, which was also of great interest to the dignitaries from Daejong Health Science College. The two institutions are exploring mutually beneficial programs for students and faculty to develop deeper academic and cultural relationships.
President Levao and Dr. Lee each signed a document of agreement, after which traditional gifts were exchanged. Dr. Lee presented President Levao with a shadowbox containing three miniature traditional Korean masks. During the signing and presentation of gifts, President Levao said, “We are looking forward to developing a stronger relationship with Daejong College. We have several mutually beneficial relationships with our higher education partners in South Korea and it has become a special place for us and our students. The College has a mission to increase its global presence and we welcome such partnerships.”
