ELECT FIVE NEW MEMBERS
April 7, 2000, Bloomfield, NJ -- The Bloomfield College Board of Trustees recently elected Maurice Brown of Montclair, Rev. Richard Crocker of Montclair, Martin McKerrow of New York City, Archie M. Palmer of Glen Ridge, and Ralph J. Salerno, Esq. of Bloomfield to its ranks. They join a group of 27 civic, business, and religious leaders who will guide the College into the 21st century.

Richard Crocker, Martin McKerrow, Archie Palmer, and Ralph Salerno to the Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Mary Lee Fitzgerald, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “The College is certain to benefit greatly from their leadership experience and interest in helping the College fulfill its mission - to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society.”
Maurice Brown, Manager, Essex/Hudson, External Affairs, Bell Atlantic - NJ, is immediate Past President of the Consortium of Information and Telecommunication Executives, Inc. and the Council of Action for Minority Professionals, Inc. Brown is a recipient of the YMCA Black Achievers’ Award and the Council of Action for Minority Professionals’ Presidential Award. A member of the African-American State Chamber of Commerce, Newark’s Quality of Life Committee, and the Newark Private Industry Council, he serves on the boards of the Hudson County Urban League, Newark Fighting Back and the National Association of Black Telecommunications. Brown was a student of Electronic Engineering at Newark College of Engineering.
Rev. Richard Crocker is Senior Pastor and Head of Staff of Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair. In 1998-99, Rev. Crocker served as interim chaplain at Bloomfield College. Prior to his work at Bloomfield, he was Dean of College Life and Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Rev. Crocker holds his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and is a Rhodes Scholar.
Martin McKerrow is partner and Co-Director of Neuberger Berman, where he helped launch a fixed income product and shares responsibility for over $10 billion of assets. McKerrow has spent much of his career as a consultant working with asset managers and corporations in evaluating investment strategies and assisting in risk management. McKerrow earned his B.A. from Kenyon College and his MBA from Columbia University School of Business.
Archie M. Palmer is currently Manager, Apheresis Recruitment, The Blood Center of New Jersey. He is the former Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford and Trinity Episcopal Church of Arlington, New Jersey. Palmer received a B.A. from Williams College and a Master of Sacred Theology from the Episcopal Divinity School.
Ralph J. Salerno, Esq., a widely-respected zoning and land use attorney, is a partner with Soriano, Henkel, Salerno, Biehl & Matthews, PC in Roseland, and serves as special counsel to the East Orange Water Commission. He was the land and zoning counsel for Bloomfield College’s application for approval to construct its new library and has counseled the College on various other zoning applications. Salerno earned an A.B. at the University of Miami, and a J.D. at the University of Tulsa, College of Law.
Founded in 1868 as a Presbyterian seminary, Bloomfield College today is an independent, four-year, co-educational institution offering programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in pre-professional studies. The College has earned national recognition for its innovative, high-quality academic and co-curricular programs.
