BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE WELCOMES FRESHMEN TO CAMPUS
August 22, 2000, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College welcomed more than 150 incoming freshmen to an orientation program held on campus last week. In the three-day session, college faculty, administrators and upper-classmen worked closely with members of the Class of 2004 to introduce them to the College’s academic programs, support services and student activities.
“Bloomfield College’s orientation program is designed to enhance students’ chances of achieving academic, social and personal success. The conversations and the learning that begin during orientation are designed to help students identify and clarify their life goals,” said Patrick Lamy, assistant dean of Student Affairs and coordinator of the orientation program.
The orientation program, whose theme was “The Quest for Knowledge,” began with a welcome from Dr. Ilona Anderson, vice president for Academic Affairs and dean of faculty; John Johnson, vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students; and Tylisha Johnson, Day Student Government President.
As part of orientation, students participated in a “data hunt,” which provided an opportunity to learn about Bloomfield College’s history and traditions. By figuring out a series of clues, students were led to historical information hidden throughout the campus.
Student life sessions allowed incoming freshmen to meet with Student Affairs staff, discuss their college expectations, and participate in group activities and team-building exercises. Advising and registration sessions provided students with the opportunity to meet advising staff, hear a brief discussion on the philosophy of a liberal arts education and meet with faculty from various divisions. Students also had an opportunity to discuss college life with upperclassmen and alumni.
In technology workshops, students viewed the Bloomfield College website and learned about the e-mail system from upperclassmen majoring in Creative Arts & Technology and Computer Information Systems.
