SIMMONDS, WHITE NAMED ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACHES
August 23, 2000, Bloomfield, NJ -- Duval Simmonds and Percy White have been named assistant coaches for the Bloomfield College men’s basketball team.
Simmonds, a 1998 graduate of St. Joseph’s University, ranks in school’s top 10 list for career blocked shots. As a forward for St. Joseph’s, he helped guide the Hawks to an Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament championship and a place in the NCAA “Sweet 16” in 1997. He was one of three players to start every game during the Hawks’ 26-win season in 1997. Simmonds graduated from Orange High School, where he was named to the first team All-New Jersey high school team by the Associated Press. He led Orange High School to Jersey’s Group 3 state championship and also helped Orange high to the title in New Jersey’s Tournament of Champions, where he earned Most Valuable Player honors.
White has previously served as an assistant coach at Bloomfield College and as an assistant coach at Orange High School. He has also coached church and town summer recreation teams. He is a 1985 graduate of Orange High School and a 1990 graduate of Bloomfield College.
Bloomfield College was elected to provisional membership in NCAA Division II in 1998. The College offers intercollegiate athletic teams in men’s and women’s soccer and basketball, women’s softball and volleyball, and men’s baseball and cross country as part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, NAIA. Students may also participate in intramural sports programs.
