NEW FACULTY MEMBERS JOIN BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

September 5, 2000 - As the school year begins, Bloomfield College recently welcomed five new faculty members: Angela Conrad of Bloomfield, Assistant Professor of Humanities; Mark Jackson of Glen Ridge, Reference Librarian; Glenda Kirkland of Montclair, Assistant Professor of Public Administration; Itzi Meztli of East Orange, Assistant Professor of English; and Kenneth Myers of Manhattan, Assistant Professor of Mathematics.

 

Angela Conrad received her B.S. degree in German Languages and Literature at Georgetown University and both her M.Phil. in English Literature and her Ph.D. in English Literature, with honors, from Drew University. Conrad comes to Bloomfield from Montclair State University, where she was an Assistant Professor of English. She has experience teaching a range of literature courses, including American poetry, American drama, Shakespeare, and Black U.S. writers.

Mark Jackson will serve as a reference and online services librarian as well as an instructor at the college. He received his Masters of Library Sciences degree from Rutgers University, and also holds a B.A. in History from Thomas Edison State Collge. His academic interests are the presentation of knowledge and information by electronic means, and helping students to use the Internet and other library resources to further their education.

Glenda Kirkland comes to Bloomfield from Isaiah House in East Orange, where she served as executive director of this youth and family residential agency. For four years, she served on the Mayor’s Commission for the Homeless in the City of Newark. In 1997, Douglass College of Rutgers University honored her with the New Jersey Women of Achievement Award. Kirkland earned an MBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Administration at Rutgers University.

Itzi Meztli received his B.A. and M.A. in Liberal Arts and English from the University of Texas, and his Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University. Meztli previously served as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of American Thought and Language at Michigan State University. In addition to his role as Assistant Professor of English, he will serve as full-time Freshman Core Coordinator. His academic interests include modern American literature, U.S. Latino/a and Chicano/a literatures, and digital literacy and composition.

Kenneth Myers brings particular strengths in the areas of teacher education and using technology in the classroom. He received his B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan State University, and both his M.A. and Ed.D. in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Myers has taught math in Kenya as a Peace Corps volunteer, served as a training specialist for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and worked as a multimedia developer in the Chemistry Department at Columbia University.
