LATINO LEADER TO SPEAK AT BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

October 12, 2000 -- Latino community leader Julio Pabon will speak on Wednesday, October 25 at 8 p.m. in Bloomfield College’s Robert V. Van Fossan Theatre on the corner of Franklin & Fremont Streets. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Lambda Theta Phi fraternity as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

A native of Puerto Rico, Pabon is owner and president of Latino Sports, a multi-faceted sports promotion company in the South Bronx specializing in the marketing and promotion of Latino athletes and their own sports apparel line. He is founder of the Roberto Clemente/Jackie Robinson Softball League in 1978, which was created to provide a positive experience for troubled teens.

A community and political activist for nearly 25 years, Pabon was the former New York City Director of Latino Affairs. In 1992, he became co-founder of the National Puerto Rican Business Council, a forum for Puerto Rican business owners to network and discuss issues within the community. He created the Lehman College Latino Alumni and is the founder of the Young Caciques Youth Leadership Program

Pabon developed the nation’s first bi-lingual sports talk show, La Hora Deportiva on WVOX 1460 AM. He writes a sports column for El Diario La Prensa newspaper.
