AUTHOR TO SPEAK ABOUT ETHNICITY & SPORTS
November 3, 2000 -- Author George Kirsch will speak about ethnicity and sports in the United States on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 p.m. in the Bloomfield College Library, corner of Liberty Street and Oakland Avenue in Bloomfield.
The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
Kirsch is a professor of History and Chairman of the History Department at Manhattan College. He is the author and editor of several books and articles on American sports, including the recently published Encyclopedia of Ethnicity and Sports in the U.S., and The Creation of American Team Sports: Baseball and Cricket, 1838-72.
Kirsch’s discussion of ethnicity and sports will place special emphasis on immigrant groups, Native Americans and African Americans.
