COLLEGE LIBRARY INTRODUCES FILM SERIES

November 22, 2000 -- In an effort to share its resources with the local community, Bloomfield College will introduce a free mid-day film series in its new library on the corner of Liberty Street and Oakland Avenue beginning on December 4.

The College’s film series will have a different theme each month, with the December films focusing on the religious themes of the holiday season.

The series begins with Testament, a seven-part series which traces the Old Testament scriptures, from the earliest concepts of God to present day religion. Film showings for Testament are December 4, Part 1 - “As it was in the Beginning”; December 5, Part 2 - “Chronicles and Kings”; December 6, Part 3 - “Mightier than the Sword”; December 7, Part 4 - “Gospel Truth”; December 8, Part 5 - “Thine is the Kingdom”; December 11, Part 6 - “The Power and the Glory”; and December 12, Part 7 - “Paradise Lost.”

On December 13, 14, 15 and 18, the College will present the four-part PBS series From Jesus to Christ, which explores the life of Jesus and the spread of Christianity. On December 19, the featured film will be Jewish Customs, which highlights the most important institutions in Jewish life: the lighting of the Hanukkah Menorah, the affixing of a mezuzah to a door post, the blowing of the shofar, kashrut, and zedakah, the Jewish concept of charity and the rules that govern it.

Kwanzaa - an African American Cultural Holiday will be shown on December 20. The film chronicles the origins, terminology and symbols of the holiday.

All screenings will be held twice each day - at 12 p.m. and again at 1 p.m. - in the library’s screening room on the lower level. The screening room seats 33 people and is handicapped accessible.
