Quest from East to West,” the portraitures and landscapes of Li Ming
Shun, will be on view at the Westminster Art Gallery at Bloomfield College
from January 18 through March 6. The exhibit is free and open to the
public. The gallery is located on Franklin and Fremont Streets in
Bloomfield.
The community is also invited to an opening reception with the artist
on Wednesday, January 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Westminster Art Gallery.
Much of Mr. Li’s work is done in oil on canvas and focuses on life
studies of the Asian male. He is also an extremely successful painter of
commissioned portraitures and landscapes.
“I find expression in all my paintings; it is not just copying a
figure but rather bringing it to life and employing all my feeling to the
depths of my soul,” said Mr. Li. “I love these beautiful living
beings, men and women from youth to old age.”
“People studying my pictures will notice the many highlights whether
it be on the face or other parts of the anatomy that brings out every drop
of beauty that I find as I paint these models,” said Mr. Li. “The
faces in my paintings have layers of different colors and shades that I
believe gives ‘the master look.’”
Born in China, Mr. Li graduated from the prestigious PLA Art Academy of
China in Beijing. In 1989, he attended the University of Georgia, Athens
Art Research Center and CIMA Contemporary Museum of Art, Inc., Art
Exchange and Lecture.
Since 1985, his work has been exhibited in over a dozen countries
throughout the world. Some of his work hangs in private, corporate and
museum collections, including those of Dr. Armand Hammer, Occidental
Petroleum Corporation, IBM, Chinese Arts Academy, and Contemporary
International Museum of Art.
Li Ming Shun currently resides in New York.
