MEDIA CENTER LAUNCHES LAPTOP LOAN INITIATIVE

August 24, 2001, Bloomfield, NJ - Beginning in September, 13 ThinkPad laptop computers will be available for student loan from the Media Center for use within the library. The computers will be equipped with a host of programs, including Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Explorer.

These laptop computers will allow students to utilize the many network ports located in the library, and will hopefully ease crowding in the computer labs. During the initial “roll-out” phase of the project, use will be limited to the second floor above the Art Collection room along wall and on tables.

“Our goal is to eventually provide unlimited access throughout the library, but since this is a pilot program we need to monitor our progress and accurately gauge student response before we launch it completely,” said Barbara Isacson, Director of the Media Center.

Students will be required to provide current Bloomfield College identification and a driver’s license, state picture ID, or current passport for a two-hour loan.

The laptop loan initiative was made possible thanks to the generosity of Automated Data Processing, Inc.; Mr. & Mrs. Archie M. Palmer, Jr.; and the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.

For further information about the laptop loan program, please call the Media Center at (973) 748-9000 ext. 370.
