WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM OFF TO BEST START SINCE 1989

January 9, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- The Bloomfield College women’s basketball team has jumped out to a perfect 11-0 record this season to lead the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. This is Bloomfield’s best start since the Lady Deacons’ undefeated regular season in 1989.

Bloomfield is averaging nearly 80 points a game, and has started the spring semester by defeating Felician College, 71-49, on the road before handing NJIT a 75-62 loss in Bloomfield.

The team has been led by several newcomers including sophomore guard Hassanah Abdullah (Jersey City, NJ), who is averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game, and junior forward Bo Jeon (Browns Mills, NJ), who is averaging 14 points and 3 steals a game. Jeon is ranked third in the conference in 3-point shooting percentage, hitting 47 percent of her shots from long range.

All-conference senior center Nzinga Green (Newark, NJ) has returned from a foot injury and is averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds a game. She has been getting help on the boards from freshman forward Erika Jones (Riverside, NJ), who has pulled down 8.6 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Shawnika Settle (Jersey City, NJ) has also been instrumental in the Lady Deacons’ winning ways. Settle tallied 12 points and had 7 assists in Bloomfield’s 95-62 win over Nyack College on December 8 and followed it with another 12 point performance against Wilmington College.
