HOLLYWOOD INSIDER TO OFFER SCREENWRITING COURSE AT BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
April 3, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ - If you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a screenwriter, now is the perfect time to get in touch with your inner Steven Spielberg, Nora Ephron or Spike Lee.
Madeline Till, a screenwriter, actor, and Hollywood consultant, will be offering a beginning screenwriting course at Bloomfield College on Monday and Wednesday evenings this summer, from 6 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. beginning on May 15. The course will be offered again in the fall on Wednesday mornings.
The course is designed to introduce students to the art and technical demands of contemporary screenwriting. The class will explore key screenwriting elements including plot, protagonist, turning point and resolution, as well as techniques used to create interesting characters and dialogue.
Students will work on developing their own stories and transforming their ideas into finished scripts. By the end of the course, students will complete a step outline of their stories and the first act of their screenplays.
Madeline Till has been working in the entertainment business for more than 20 years. As a development consultant for Paramount, Disney, Warner Brothers and other Hollywood studios, she developed story ideas and advised producers on scripts for productions. In 1995, she was a development associate for Havoc Films, Inc., where she evaluated scripts for Tim Robbins’ film company.
“Coming from L.A., I’ve read a lot of scripts that were ‘high concept,’ but you can’t
predict what’s going to be the next blockbuster or the next hot thing. For this class, I’m more interested in the personal story and students writing their own stories that they have to tell,” said Till.
Till has also worked as a writer/researcher for A&E, the Arts & Entertainment Network, and has taught writing at New York University, The Montclair Kimberley Academy, and The Writing Center in Los Angeles.
As Artistic Director of a New York-based theatre company, she produced critically acclaimed plays nationally and internationally.
She received a writing grant sponsored by Panavision, as well as a New Filmmaker’s Grant from the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences.
Till holds a bachelor’s degree in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and earned a master’s degree in Writing from the University of Southern California.
