Bloomfield Artist Presents “Louisiana Jambalaya” in College Library

May 10, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ - “Louisiana Jambalaya,” a mixture/jambalaya of portraits and landscapes, words and found objects by Bloomfield College Artist-in-Residence Ella Veres, is currently on display in the Niche and Stair Space Galleries in the lower level of the Bloomfield College Library.

Barbara Isacson, Director of the College Media Center and exhibit curator, says, “It is important to have art not only in a museum or gallery, but in a place where you go all the time. Students then get used to seeing art, and learn to relate to the process of creating the art as well as to the art itself.”

Veres, a native of Transylvania, Romania, is a multi-media artist, journalist, writer and performer. Currently pursuing a Master’s of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing at New York University, Veres received an M.A. in American Studies at Budapest University, and an M.A. in Creative Writing at Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge. Veres is a contributing writer to New York Newsday’s “New New Yorker” section, which highlights the lives of immigrants.

As Artist-in-Residence, Veres conducts workshops on the creative process for Bloomfield College students, and presents free performances for the College community and community at large.

“I perceive my work as a ring in the chain of life,” says Veres. “While I draw my inspiration from what's surrounding me, I am also fodder for the imaginative world of those I inspire. Like nature's cycle of growth-putrefaction-rebirth, so is my osmotic process."

The show runs through September 27. The Bloomfield College Library is located on the corner of Liberty Street and Oakland Avenue. For more information about the exhibit, please call the Media Center at 973-748-9000, ext. 370.
