BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE FRESHMAN EARNS FUTURE TECHNOLOGIST SCHOLARSHIP

June 19, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- Richard Haspil of East Orange, an incoming freshman at Bloomfield College, has been selected to receive a Future Technologist Scholarship Award from The New Jersey Technology Council Education Foundation. The award of $5,000 will be matched by Bloomfield College.

The presentation was made at the annual New Jersey Technology Showcase on June 13 at the Garden State Convention & Exhibition Center in Somerset, NJ.

“Richard is a self-motivated student and has even helped me teach a course,” said Jack Karamanol, a teacher of technical occupations at East Orange High School. “He’s the type of student I would love to have in all my classes.”

Haspil recently finished second in the state in a computer competition sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America. He plans to major in Internet Technology at Bloomfield College.

Besides excelling in the classroom, Haspil has also been a top runner on the East Orange High School track team.

The New Jersey Technology Council provides business support, networking opportunities, information, advocacy, and recognition of technology companies and their leaders. Founded in 1996, NJTC’s more than 1,200 member companies work together to support their own enterprises while advancing New Jersey’s status as a leading technology center in the United States.

To increase the quality and quantity of New Jersey’s science, math, engineering and technology professionals, the NJTC Education Foundation is actively engaged in a variety of programs and projects that include: entrepreneurial training, scholarships to keep future technologists in New Jersey, a web site for student internships, and an annual virtual job fair.

Bloomfield College’s Internet Technology program is grounded in a liberal arts base while also offering students technical training and internship opportunities. Students graduate from the program not only with a bachelor’s degree, but also with the Cisco certifications to open the door to a highly-paid position.

Founded in 1868 as a Presbyterian seminary, Bloomfield College today is an independent, four-year, co-educational institution offering programs in the liberal arts and pre-professional studies. The College’s mission is to prepare students to achieve academic, personal and professional success in a multicultural and global society.
