HOLMES NAMED MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH AT BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

July 22, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- Gerald Holmes of West Orange has been promoted to head men’s basketball coach at Bloomfield College.

Holmes served as assistant men’s basketball coach at Bloomfield College last year. The Deacons finished 13-15 in 2001-2002 and defeated Dominican College in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

Before coming to Bloomfield, Holmes served as assistant men’s basketball coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for two years. For six years, he was the assistant boys’ basketball coach at Columbia High School in Maplewood.

Holmes graduated from NJIT in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science with an option in nuclear engineering. He is a 1982 graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood.

Bloomfield College was elected to provisional membership in NCAA Division II in 1998. The College offers intercollegiate athletic teams in men’s and women’s soccer and basketball, women’s softball and volleyball, and men’s baseball and cross country as part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, NAIA. Students may also participate in intramural sports programs.
