August 7, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College was recently approved for active membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division II, effective September 1, 2002.

The announcement was made on July 30, following the NCAA Division II Membership Committee meeting. For the past four years, Bloomfield College was a provisional member of NCAA Division II while also competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

“Joining the NCAA is a tremendous step for Bloomfield College athletics. I am elated that Bloomfield College has become a full-fledged member of NCAA Division II, and I’m excited that our teams will have the opportunity to compete in NCAA championships,” said Sheila Wooten, Bloomfield College Athletic Director.

Other benefits of active membership include eligibility to vote at the annual NCAA Convention and access to the NCAA Division II Enhancement fund.

Bloomfield College offers intercollegiate athletic teams in men’s and women’s soccer and basketball, women’s softball and volleyball, and men’s baseball and cross country as part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Students may also participate in intramural sports programs.

Founded in 1868, Bloomfield College is an independent, four-year co-educational institution offering programs in the liberal arts and professional studies. The Bloomfield College mission, “to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society,” springs from the College’s history, its tradition, and its present identity.
