October 30, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- The Bloomfield College women’s volleyball team (16-14 overall, 12-4 conference) has been named the top seed of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, to be played at New Jersey Institute of Technology on Friday, November 1st. Bloomfield, which has won the conference crown the past two seasons, will challenge NCAA-eligible schools Teikyo Post University, Dominican College, and Georgian Court College for the title. Bloomfield College was named to NCAA Division II this fall, and this is the first time a Bloomfield sports team has qualified for NCAA post-season play. The men’s soccer team also qualified for post-season play. |

The Lady Deacons tallied a seven-game winning streak towards the end of the regular season, and they have won their last six conference matches. They have defeated second-ranked Teikyo Post University in both meetings this year, 30-16, 30-12, 30-22, and 29-31, 30-27, 30-26, 30-17. Senior Eduarda Modaneze and junior Cintia Spaniol, both All-CACC players last year, are once again leading the way for Bloomfield. In the first week of the season, Modaneze was named CACC Player of the Week, and became the only player in the country to record two quadruple doubles. She led the conference in kills and digs this season, and was recently named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bryant College Tournament. Spaniol tallied 12 kills in her first game against Georgian Court this season, and also had an impressive game against them later in October, when she hit .517 with 11 digs, five blocks and three aces. First-year player Jacqueline Monroy has stepped in nicely at setter, and averages 5.5 assists per game. In the last three seasons, Bloomfield has amassed a record of 45-5 against conference opponents. The Lady Deacons advanced to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament in 2000 and 2001. |
