MENS SOCCER TEAM QUALIFIES FOR PLAYOFFS FOR FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS

November 1, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- For the first time in six years, the Bloomfield College men’s soccer team has qualified for post-season play. The Deacons are seeded third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs (NCAA-eligible bracket) and will take on second-seeded Dominican College on Thursday, November 7 at Teikyo Post University in Connecticut.

Along with the women’s volleyball team, the men’s soccer team has become the first Bloomfield College team to qualify for the NCAA playoffs. Bloomfield College was named a full member of NCAA Division II in September.

The Deacons have posted a 4-5 conference record this season and are 4-13 overall. Despite playing a difficult schedule that included Division II powerhouses East Stroudsburg, Millersville, and Bloomsburg, Bloomfield College was competitive, and the Deacons tallied victories over conference rivals Holy Family, NJIT, Goldey Beacom, and Nyack this year.

Senior Lumjen Shyti has lead the Deacons offensively, tallying five goals and three assists. Senior Sammy Manages has dominated defensively and also leads the team in assists. “Lumjen and Sammy are arguably two of the top players in the conference,” said head coach Doug Moore. “We’ve also had a strong supporting cast of seniors with Ben Siriboe, Manny Perez, and Christian Pardo leading the way.”

Sophomore Rick Adams was also a clutch player for Bloomfield, and came through with two game-winning goals.
