BERTSCHE AND WHALEY JOIN BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
December 13, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- The Bloomfield College Board of Trustees recently elected Copeland G. Bertsche of Montclair and Mark Thomas Whaley of Basking Ridge to its ranks. They join a group of 30 civic, business, and religious leaders who are guiding the College into the 21st century.
It is a privilege to welcome Copeland Bertsche and Mark Whaley to the Board of Trustees, said Adrian A. Shelby, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. The College is certain to benefit greatly from their leadership experience and interest in helping the College fulfill its mission to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society.
Copeland
Bertsche
is a retired Senior Executive and Managing Corporate Counsel with
extensive law, operating, and administrative skills gained over 23 years
in various senior legal positions within the telecommunications industry.
Bertsche was Chief Counsel to the Wireless and International Divisions at Lucent Technologies, and the Fiber Optic and Copper Cable Division of AT&T. He has served as General Counsel for AT&T Resource Management Corporation, and General Attorney for AT&T Contract Services Organization.
In the community, Bertsche has been active with the Child Service Association, the Montclair Board of Education, United Way, and Colgate University.
He earned a B.A. from Colgate University, a J.D. from Seton Hall Law School, and an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business.
Mark
Whaley
serves as Senior Vice President, Regional Director East, for RBC Dain
Rauscher, and oversees all investment activities and service to individual
investors and small businesses in the region. He also serves as a member
of RBC Investments Directors Group.
Whaley began his career in the securities industry in 1982 as an Investment Executive with Gibraltar Securities in Florham Park. He was promoted to retail sales manager in 1987 and was named president of Gibraltar Securities in 1999.
As president, he negotiated the sale of the independent brokerage firm to Tucker Anthony Sutro. He was appointed a Director with Tucker Anthony Sutro in 2000. In 2001, RBC Dain Rauscher acquired Tucker Anthony Sutro, and upon completion of the merger, Whaley was named regional director of the East Region.
Whaley earned his B.A. from Bloomfield College in 1976. He has served as a trustee of The Valerie Fund, and has been a member of its investment and major gifts committees.
Founded in 1868 as a Presbyterian seminary, Bloomfield College today is an independent, four-year, co-educational institution offering programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in pre-professional studies. The College has earned national recognition for its innovative, high-quality academic and co-curricular programs.
