December 20, 2002, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College recently hosted a luncheon for the 2002-2003 Bestfoods scholarship recipients as well as members of the Bestfoods Educational Foundation. The event, held in the Westminster Art Gallery, provided the scholarship recipients with an opportunity to personally thank the Foundation’s trustees for their support. It also allowed the Foundation’s trustees to meet the students who are benefiting from their generous gift.
Last summer, the Bestfoods Educational Foundation awarded the College $100,000 in support of student scholarships. The grant is helping nearly 100 upperclass men and women to remain in school and earn their degrees. The scholarship awards are helping students bridge the gap between the cost of tuition and their financial aid package.
“I am truly blessed to receive this award,” said senior Margaret Adjoga-Otu. “This scholarship has motivated me to continue with my academic success.”
This is the first grant made to the College by the Bestfoods Educational Foundation. Historically, the Foundation has provided merit-based scholarships for children of Bestfoods employees. However, Bloomfield College’s mission and the diversity of its students so impressed the Foundation Board members that they decided to include Bloomfield among the recipients of their generosity.
“The Foundation Board was very impressed with the mission of Bloomfield College and the caliber of the faculty and students we met during our visit. We are pleased to be a partner of Bloomfield College in providing scholarship support to deserving students,” said Richard P. Bergeman, President of the Bestfoods Educational Foundation.
Luis Schuchinski, one of the four Foundation Board members who visited
the College in April, encouraged the Bestfoods Educational Foundation to
consider Bloomfield College among its potential grant recipients. Luis
became a friend of the College through Rosemary Iversen, a Bloomfield
College Trustee. The College remains grateful to Luis and Rosemary for
helping to secure this grant.
