January 23, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- As part of V-Day, the global movement to stop violence against women and girls, the award-winning production The Vagina Monologues is returning to Bloomfield College on Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. in the Robert V. Van Fossan Theatre in Bloomfield College’s Westminster Arts Center, corner of Franklin and Fremont Streets in Bloomfield.
The event is sponsored by Sisters In Support, The Male Empowerment Network (M.E.N.), and other student organizations at Bloomfield College. The goal is to raise awareness to stop violence against women and girls, and to raise funds for two charities: Babyland Services and The Safe House.
Hailed by the New York Times as “funny” and “poignant” and by the Daily News as “intelligent” and “courageous,” The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Eve Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of the show to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their local communities. V-Day itself stages large scale benefits and promotes innovative gatherings and programs to change social attitudes about violence against women. In 2002, more than 800 V-Day benefit events were presented by local volunteer activists around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.
