BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE ATHLETICS JOINS ECAC
January 27, 2002, Bloomfield, N.J. - Commissioner Phil Buttafuoco and ECAC President Ed Matejkovic have announced Bloomfield College has been voted into membership by the Eastern College Athletic Conference for the 2002-03 academic year.
The institution was recommended by the Membership Committee and voted in by the Board of Directors during the during the NCAA Convention, January 11-13.
With the addition of Bloomfield, ECAC membership increases to 314 colleges from Maine to North Carolina.
Bloomfield College is an NCAA Division II institution with an enrollment of 1,800 located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Bloomfield is a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) and sponsors eight varsity sports including baseball, men's and women's basketball, cross country, men's and women's soccer, softball, and volleyball. "Joining the ECAC is a tremendous step for Bloomfield College Athletics," said Shelia Wooten, director of athletics. "I'm excited that Bloomfield College will have the opportunity to experience ECAC championships and all its benefits."
The ECAC is the nation's largest athletics conference and currently conducts 113 championships in 34 sports. The conference provides services to its constituents that include: assigning officials in 15 sports; coordinating awards; administration of affiliate organizations, conventions, meetings, marketing, officiating, playing leagues, public relations and special events. The ECAC serves as the primary conference for selected members in the sports of men's and women's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, and men's gymnastics.
