March 21, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College was recently awarded the 2003 Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Great Start Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“We believe the pro-active education activities Bloomfield College has provided to New Jersey schools is one of the key ingredients for a successful indoor air quality management program,” said Michele Guarneiri, Public Affairs Specialist at the EPA’s Indoor Environments Division.

Each year, under the guidance of Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds Arthur Pierfy, Bloomfield College offers an indoor air quality training program for New Jersey high school and college personnel. The program teaches school administrators a general knowledge of proper air quality in buildings and shows them how to implement a successful indoor air quality plan. Part of the training includes hands-on use of air-testing equipment.

“The EPA appreciates Bloomfield College’s commitment to improving the indoor air quality in our schools and protecting the health and safety of students and staff,” said Guarneiri.

Founded in 1868 as a Presbyterian seminary, Bloomfield College today is an independent, four-year, co-educational institution offering programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in pre-professional studies. The College has earned national recognition for its innovative, high-quality academic and co-curricular programs.
