BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE INTRODUCES GAME DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

April 21, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College is excited to announce a new Game Development Certificate Program, the first of its kind in the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. The intensive 20-week program will begin September 15, but prospective students can get a taste of what’s to come at an Open House yet to be announced.

"Unless you move to the West Coast," comments Professor John Towsen, Faculty Coordinator for the program, "you won’t find more than a scattered course or two in game development. We’re starting with a 12-course curriculum and hope to expand from there."

The Certificate Program offers two complementary tracks: Programming and Design. Each track is six courses long with the last class being a collaboration between the programmers and designers on creating an actual game. Towsen explains that "some of our students will take to the logic of coding and masterminding the game, while others will be more at home with the illustration, animation, and storytelling. Of course you can do both tracks, though not at the same time."

The Game Development Certificate Program is a joint project of Bloomfield College’s Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), the leading information technology training center in New Jersey, and the College’s academic program in Creative Arts & Technology, widely known for its state-of-the-art training in the digital arts, with specializations in computer graphics, music technology, digital video, animation, and interactive multimedia.

Classes will meet on weekday evenings and will be non-credit adult education courses. All courses qualify for New Jersey State teacher continuing education accreditation.
