OPEN HOUSE FOR SUMMER ARTS & TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

May 7, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- Starting this summer, Bloomfield College will offer intensive creative arts & technology training for the working professional through its new SmartCAT Studios initiative.

Workshops will be offered on evenings and weekends from June 2 throughout the summer.

To introduce the program, the College will hold an Open House on May 14th in the Westminster Hall Art Gallery from 7-9 pm.

“We’re excited about how diverse and far-reaching this program is,” said Professor John Towsen. “We’ll be offering a mix of performance classes like circus and stand-up comedy, traditional studio arts such as painting and printmaking, as well as the hottest computer courses like 3D animation and special effects. You name it, we’ve got it!”

Course offerings will also include Wireless Game Development, Comic Book Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Motion Graphics, Dreamweaver, QuarkXPress, TV & Film Acting, Voiceovers, Capoeira, and Desktop Publishing. All courses are non-credit continuing education courses. Students do not need to be matriculated to take a course. However, all SmartCAT courses do qualify for New Jersey State teacher continuing education accreditation.

Each workshop is geared toward production, and the training program was developed by the Creative Arts & Technology (CAT) program at Bloomfield College - New Jersey’s premiere center for new media education.

“We don’t just offer a walking tour of software programs; we immediately apply the tools to a challenging project. We believe that students learn best by creating something that they can take with them and that can serve as a model for future exploration,” said Professor Towsen.

Courses are reasonably priced, and students who take four courses are able to take a fifth course free.

Bloomfield College is conveniently located just blocks from Exit 148 on the Garden State Parkway. The College is four miles from Newark, two miles from Montclair and the Oranges.
