REV. BLACKMON TO SPEAK AT BACCALAUREATE

May 19, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- Rev. Agnes Blackmon, Pastor of the Westminster-Bethany Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, NY, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Bloomfield College Baccalaureate ceremony on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church-On-The-Green in Bloomfield.

Baccalaureate recognizes students graduating with honors, and traditionally serves as a ceremony in which the degree is blessed in a non-denominational service.

In addition to serving the Westminster-Bethany Presbyterian Church, Rev. Blackmon is a Clergy Commissioner to the Synod of the Northeast. She is a Life Member of the NAACP and is the Director of Religious Affairs for the New York State Conference of Branches. Rev. Blackmon is the Chaplain for the Metropolitan Council ACT-SO Program, and she serves on various executive boards.

She has participated in numerous community outreach projects including working with young adults in the NAACP’s ACT-SO (Academic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics) Program.

Rev. Blackmon has received many awards for her work, including the C.T. Reed Award from the NAACP, the Shirley Chisholm Club Award for Outstanding Clergy of the Year, and the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from St. Barbara of Sardi’s Church in Brooklyn.

She received her B.A. from Loyola College in Montreal with a double major in History and Psychology. She earned a master’s degree in Social Work from Adelphi University with a concentration in Group Work and Community Organization. She also holds an M.S. from Brooklyn College with a concentration in School Psychology, and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She earned a Master’s of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary.

Rev. Blackmon’s professional ministry began in 1992 when she served her home church, Church of the Master Presbyterian Church in New York.
