BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE AGREES TO TECHNOLOGY EXCHANGE PROGRAM WITH KOREAN UNIVERSITY

August 4, 2003, Bloomfield, NJ -- Bloomfield College President Richard A. Levao recently signed an international exchange and cooperation agreement with President Kwang Jin Rhee of Korea’s Chungnam National University.

Under the five-year agreement, Bloomfield College will provide Information Technology training to students from Chungnam National University (CNU) through the College’s Institute for Technology & Professional Studies.

Twice a year, Bloomfield will host as many as 25 students from CNU for a rigorous 26-week academic program that will include classes in Cisco, Solaris, Checkpoint, and instruction in English-language and presentation skills. The agreement between Bloomfield College and CNU will also promote joint research programs and an exchange of scholars and academic information.

Bloomfield College was one of three U.S. institutions chosen by the Korean government to provide instruction in Information Technology for Korean university students. In the past, Bloomfield has provided training to exchange students from Handong Global University, Jeon Ju University and Kyungpook National University in Korea.

“I gained the confidence to work hard and the opportunity to develop many friendships,” said Yujin Kim, an IT/Computer Engineer major from Handong University, who recently completed the program at Bloomfield College.

Under the direction of Vice President Peter Jeong, Bloomfield College’s Institute for Technology & Professional Studies serves adult working professionals, the corporate arena, and the international marketplace. The Institute offers non-credit programs for the domestic market and collaborative credit programs for the overseas market through partnerships with international universities.

As a leader in technology training, Bloomfield College was the first four-year college in New Jersey to introduce Microsoft, Cisco and Sun certification programs. The College’s Advanced Technology Institute, part of the Institute for Technology & Professional Studies, is the largest IT training center in New Jersey higher education.

Founded in 1952, Chungnam National University offers programs in engineering, law, medicine, pharmacy, natural and social sciences, and the humanities. In 1998, the University was designated as a National Strategic University and was selected as a Superior University for Korea’s Cyber University Project.
