July 31, 2003 (Bloomfield, NJ) – Three Bloomfield College athletes recently volunteered at the Safety Health Fair, sponsored by the Three Doctors Foundation, held at the Newark Boys & Girls Club on July 26.
Men’s basketball team members Allen Valentine of West Orange, Norman Ingram of Camden and Andrew Whitmore of Hightstown, along with their coach, Gerald Holmes of West Orange, helped set up for the fair, registered youth for the fair’s Positive Peer Pressure Health Challenge, assisted with food and beverage distribution, and participated in a basketball game, which Holmes also coordinated.
The health fair was a means of distributing critical health and safety information in a fun and safe environment for the benefit of all who attended.
The Three Doctors are Sampson Davis, George Jenkins and Rameck Hunt, who, 13 years ago while they were teenagers on the streets of Newark, made a pact to stick together, go to college and become doctors.
As a result, Davis and Hunt graduated from medical school, while Jenkins graduated from dental school.
The three men overcame obstacles, determined not to become victims of their environment, and now deliver a message of hope and inspiration everywhere they go.
Bloomfield College was elected to full membership in NCAA Division II in Fall 2002. The College offers intercollegiate athletic teams in men’s and women’s soccer and basketball, women’s softball and volleyball, and men’s baseball and cross country as part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Students may also participate in intramural sports programs.
