Promoting Physical, Spiritual, and Emotional Health

“It is the mission of the Wellness Center to encourage the pursuit of healthier lifestyles, balancing study, family and life commitments – interacting in an environment that fosters positive changes and integrates wellness into the community culture.”

College is a time of tremendous growth and development. Students are presented with multiple opportunities and challenges through which they begin to forge or strengthen their adult identities. These experiences are often meaningful and rewarding but students can also experience difficulties and setbacks. The stress of balancing family, school, work and relationships may lead you to need help. Being centered and balanced in your life allows you to have the energy you need to meet life's challenges.

Wellness is not simply the absence of illness. At Bloomfield College, we see wellness as a physical, spiritual and emotional wholeness. A holistic approach to wellness is one in which mind, body and spirit are seen as interconnected.  Just as physical illness can result in a person feeling emotionally drained, improving one’s health can result in increased motivation, productivity, and openness. As individuals focus on and nurture any one aspect of their being, all other aspects are enhanced.

The Bloomfield College Wellness Center is comprised of the Health Services Office, the Chaplaincy, and the Personal Counseling Office. We are all here to help you to help yourself in a variety of ways. In the following sections you will learn more about the role each office plays in promoting wellness and the services we offer. Together our goals are to foster your growth as a whole person.

Physical Health

Do you want to learn to take care of yourself? Are you feeling ill and don’t know what do? Do you want help to get better and stay well? Do you need information about birth control or STDs? Do you think you might be pregnant? Do you need a physical for a job? Do you just want to talk about your health and wellness issues?

The Wellness Center is the place to come. A Board Certified Registered Nurse or doctor will help you through the maze and help you meet the challenges of academic life by minimizing class absences and study time lost to illness or injury. We’ll help you learn how to protect yourself and enhance your health. We’ll work with you to care for your illness and injuries and assist you in obtaining emergency and specialty medical care. Our services focus on measures that enhance self-esteem and wellness, and not solely on problems or illnesses.

Spiritual Health

Are you interested in enriching your life? Do you need help growing spiritually? Are you so busy that you forget to take care of yourself? Clearly there is a connection between spiritual, emotional and physical well-being.

The Bloomfield College Chaplaincy offers a wide variety of spiritual programs, projects, and services to the college community. We strive to engage and serve people of all faiths and creeds. We bring students, faculty and staff together in comprehensive offerings including prayer, discussion and spiritual exploration. The Chaplains offer spiritual and religious counseling.

Emotional Health

Are you getting the most out of every day?  Do you feel that you do the things you say you want to do or are you plagued by self defeating behaviors?  If your conflicts get in the way of your dreams, your emotional wellness may need a jump start.

Life is stressful.  The life of a college student is especially so.  Many people need help understanding themselves and breaking out of old patterns which prevent them from feeling and doing their best.  It is our aim in counseling to help people find their true selves and develop as strong, healthy individuals.
