Service
to the
Community

"Service is often an expression of the search for God, and not only the desire to bring about individual and social change.  Radical servanthood challenges us, while attempting to overcome poverty, hunger, illness, and other forms of human misery, to reveal the gentle presence of our compassionate God in the midst of a broken world.

-- Heri Nowen, Compassion

A Faith that Gives as it Receives
Religious life at Bloomfield College is characterized by a faithful commitment to service and to personal spiritual growth.  For many, service is a priority for expressing faith and experiencing God's loving presence.
Putting faith into action, Bloomfield College students may serve their community through hunger and homeless programs, tutoring and mentoring with youth, crisis ministries and health care, HIV/AIDS services, church/faith-based ministries and, in the near future, mission trips. Bloomfield College as an institution also holds service to the community close to the heart of its overall mission. In fact, the college requires community service of all its students through the Sophomore Core program.

Along with Religious Life, the college's Career Services and the Bloomfield College Volunteer Center help to connect students with various organizations who utilize volunteers. Students and Service Leaders wishing to know and do more in the field of volunteering should visit the National Volunteers Office of the PC(USA).

Ultimately, the purpose of being gifted by God is to pass those gifts on to the world.
The Religious Life program of Bloomfield College
is committed to providing students, faculty and staff
opportunities to serve God by serving those around us.
Along with the offerings initiated by the Chaplaincy and the Religious Life program,
you are welcome to provide your ideas and suggestions
for community service programs.
